Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Standards

These are the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians Standards

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians set provides in-depth guidance for the most common types of work undertaken in the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) industry.

Areas covered include specifying, designing and installing RAC equipment; also included are servicing and repairing, and end-of-life decommissioning of RAC equipment.

All of the Standards in this set are referenced in Section 135 of the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995 (Cth).

Licensed refrigeration technicians are required to comply with these standards as part of the terms of their licence.

Available in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians Set.

Name Publisher
AS/NZS 5149.4:2016 Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements, Part 4: Operation, maintenance, repair and recovery (ISO 5149-4:2014, MOD)
Current
Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
Specifies requirements for safety and environmental aspects in relation to operation, maintenance and repair of refrigerating systems and the recovery, reuse and disposal of all types of refrigerant, refrigerant oil, heat transfer fluid, refrigerating system and part thereof.
AS/NZS 5149.3:2016 Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements, Part 3: Installation site (ISO 5149-3:2014, MOD)
Current
Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
Specifies a simple means of referring to common refrigerants instead of using the chemical name, formula, or trade name. It also establishes a uniform system to be used in assigning the proper reference number and classification to refrigerants; the system for refrigerant classification is defined and physical data of common refrigerants listed.
AS/NZS ISO 817:2016 Refrigerants - Designation and safety classification
Current
Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
This Standard provides an unambiguous system for assigning designations to refrigerants. It also establishes a system for assigning a safety classification to refrigerants based on toxicity and flammability data, and provides a means of determining the refrigerant concentration limit.
AS/NZS 5149.1:2016 Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements, Part 1: Definitions, classification and selection criteria (ISO 5149-1:2014, MOD)
Current
Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
Specifies the requirements for the safety of persons and property, provides guidance for the protection of the environment, and establishes procedures for the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigerating systems and the recovery of refrigerants.
AS/NZS 5149.2:2016 Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements, Part 2: Design, construction, testing, marking and documentation (ISO 5149-2:2014, MOD)
Current
Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand
Applicable to the design, construction, and installation of refrigerating systems, including piping, components, materials, and ancillary equipment directly associated with such systems.
